We had a family of 13 (9 adults + 4 kids) stay at Lost Bear for a short weekend ski trip. It’s hard to get everyone together nowadays with such busy schedules, so we wanted to make sure the trip was worthwhile. Both the lodging and skiing did not disappoint. We had a fabulous time and Lost Bear was the perfect setting for a casual family getaway. First, it is beautifully built and appointed with great attention to detail. As soon as we walked through the doors, we were welcomed with a luxury mountain cabin feel and a cinnamon spiced scent to boot. The kids especially liked it because they had not stayed in a luxury cabin like this before and they loved the bunk bed situation. Throughout the trip they kept referring to it as “the fancy house” and my young nephew was so sad when the trip came to an end that he actually shed tears. The owners have really gone above and beyond to make sure that every need is met in terms of all the provisions provided. We accidentally brought whole coffee beans and were soooo relieved to see that they actually had a big canister of ground coffee there. All paper goods, cooking supplies, spices were provided. My brother who is extremely particular was even impressed by the care and effort the owners went to ensure we were comfortable. Aside from eating at the lodge one afternoon, we cooked every meal in the gourmet kitchen and enjoyed spending family time together away from the crowds and noise at the lodge. We took advantage of two firepits (a custom build wood burning firepit with a beautiful stone sitting area and a convenient gas firepit under the covered deck where we comfortably roasted s’mores on a rainy night). Although I barely had to communicate with Keith since all of our needs were met, the brief times I did he was extremely responsive and kind. We will be back hopefully in the spring or summer to check out Falling Water and the other warm weather activities in the area.
